Freight Sales Representative
Office location – Neville Island (Pittsburgh), PA
The Freight Sales Representative (FSR) will be required to develop new business and maintain and expand current client sales specifically targeting defined geographic locations. The Freight Sales Representative will be responsible for the prospecting, relationship building, and customer service in a pre-defined territory.

  • Develop a working relationships with customers (shippers)
  • Must have excellent phone skills in addition to excellent writing skills (computer)
  • Must be able to achieve weekly / monthly goals and develop freight opportunities
  • Source, secure and manage the transportation needs of new and existing customers
  • Take a proactive approach with finding freight and developing new business (Researching and cold calling); Focus on contacting manufacturers or shippers to obtain cargo opportunities
  • Develop In-depth knowledge of customers’ product and services; Track transportation requirements for clients
  • Requires daily conversations about freight lanes, rates and solutions the company has to offer to their customers
  • Manage transportation needs of clients; work in conjunction with Brokerage Operations and Contract account to make arrangements for back-haul opportunities to re-position trucks in lanes to benefit hauling opportunities
  • Manage operational activities of loads to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Building long term relationships with clients
  • Negotiate client and carrier freight rates
  • Manage and resolve service and capacity issues
  • Working closely with a team of associates to improve processes
  • Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
  • Previous sales experience in the trucking industry required
  • Need to be very proficient in US Geography (Understanding regions of the US)
  • Must have strong math skills to understand percentages, rate calculations, weights and measures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to persuade and communicate via phone
  • Ability to remain resilient in a competitive environment
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently and also part of a group as needed
  • Confidently making good decisions under time pressure; Thrives in a fast paced environment that requires problem solving and strong decision making
  • Must be adaptable to changing needs of clients

Schedule, Compensation, & Benefits Overview:
  • Typical Schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • 90% office based / 10% Travel
  • Salaried position based on experience – plus Incentive program
